Frequently Asked Questions

What are the boxes of words on the Map?

The Map shows you the posts from the last few weeks that are popular in the area you're viewing around this current time of day.

What is the golden post on the Map?

That's the most popular post in that highlighted area around this time.

Why is the Map changing all the time? Is this data live?

Yes and no. Posts shown on the Map are the locations in the highlighted area where users with that post have gathered over the last few weeks around the current time. Brand new posts are always being aggregated with previous post data from the last few weeks, as well as a few hours before and after the current time. So while some of the data you're seeing is from users active on the app now, there's no way to tell the difference between posts from active users and posts from several days ago.

How do I see where a certain post is popular, where those people tend to be?

You can tap any post in your list of your own posts. This will show white circles on the Map, the areas where other users with the same post tend to be at this time (within the highlighted area).

How do I turn off highlighting a post?

Tap the post text across the top of the Map to turn off post highlighting.

How do I contact other users?

Circles is an experimental micro-posting platform where posts are tiny, sharable, and location-aware. There are no user accounts, so there is no ability to connect with other users. Instead of connecting with individuals, use Project Circles to find a new place to live, to plan a trip to somewhere where your posts are popular, or to discover new posts and interests popular elsewhere that you can bring to your own area.

How do I add a post to my own?

Just type your post into the Posts tab, or, if you see it on the Map, tap it and then tap the thumbs-up symbol. This will add the post to your own.

Why no personally identifiable content?

Circles can only be safe if it's about data in aggregate. So we don't allow any one to create a post unique enough to identify them by it. Posts like telephone numbers, addresses, tax IDs, full names... these are unlikely to be shared by others, which means someone viewing the Map data could use those unique posts to track an individual user's movements. We don't want anyone (even us) to be able to identify a specific user's movements, even if you wanted us to, so these kinds of posts are prohibited.

How do I report a post for moderation?

Tap it when you see it on the Map and then tap the exclamation point. This will report the post for moderation.

How does moderation work?

Every new post is approved by a human before it is seen by other users. Moderators do not accept anything unintelligible, potentially unkind, potentially useful as a unique identifier, acronyms, names, numbers, addresses, etc.

Why is this app so slow?

Because it doesn't make any money yet, so we have to be cheap. But if you keep using it, we'll be able to keep improving it.

Why don't I see any posts on the Map?

Either the app's being slow or you're looking at an area of the Map with no users. Give it just a little bit more time between changes to give the Map time to update. If you still see no posts, tap the arrow button at the bottom right corner of the Map to center on your own area, where there's always at least one user: you!.

Why no Android?

We are a small dev team working on this for free and already on the Apple ecosystem. Stay tuned, Android users, you are not forgotten.
